Effect of Binder Distribution in LIB Electrode on Mass Transport Performance

INTRODUCTION To develop high charge-discharge rate Lithiumion secondary battery (LIB), understanding internal phenomena and dominant factor in electrode is very important. However, actual LIB consists of various different and complex materials, and in-situ measurement of reactant concentration distribution and transfer rate is difficult. In this study, in order to know the ion reaction and transfer distribution in heterogeneous porous structure by numerical analysis, structure of separator and both electrode (positive and negative) were simulated, and three dimensional electrochemical transport simulation was carried out. In particular, the effect of binder distribution on effective reaction field and cell performance was examined.
