The project management in the implementation of a Business Intelligence (BI) system. Case Study: Institution of Higher Education.

This work demonstrates the adoption of the project management based on PMBOK on a project of development and implementation of a system of Business Intelligence (BI) at an institution of higher education. Such approach makes it necessary to use a standard of development projects in the institution through the many projects and the lack of people, time, among others. The goal of this paper is to present the best practices of the PMBOK to support the development of projects and, based on the model presented, it will be applied in new projects and in other areas of the institution. This purpose will be achieved from the literature review and a case study, in which will be developed and implemented a Business Intelligence project following the concepts, standard and knowledge of the guide PMBOK project management in a higher education institution. The analysis demonstrated that the learned concepts that were adopted contributed significantly in raising and understanding the scope, development, monitoring and control of the project as well as having generated a documentation that can be used with the knowledge base for improving the project and support for development of new projects.
