Nursing Participation in the Selection of Healthcare Information Systems

1995
The changing nature of healthcare delivery systems has brought new significance to the selection and application of computer-based information systems. A paradigm shift toward the management of patient care and related costs across a continuum of service needs and over the life span of each individual is focusing increased attention on how best to define, represent, and communicate healthcare data. Nursing has key responsibility and accountability in planning, evaluating, and delivering patient care services within this new framework. Consequently, participation in the selection of healthcare information systems that will support clinical and managerial decision making is critical.
