A Reclusian Experience: Les Cahiers Élisée Reclus

2005
Created in 1996, and now with more than fifty issues, Les Cahiers Elisee Reclus undertake three tasks: re-issuing texts, rare or unpublished documents not put forward for discussion until now; publishing detailed commentaries, recent or past, on Reclus’ work, circle, and posterity; and keeping an information and bibliography column. They are deliberately published on a very modest medium resembling bulletins published by learned societies or readers’ associations. They explore Reclus’ enormous corpus, studied under all aspects, in addition to criteria, language and academic barriers. They call upon the history of anarchism and geography, as well as philosophy, aestheticism, ethnology, and freedom of education. With these different topics, Les Cahiers Elisee Reclus, created outside the institution, underline the relevance and the scope of such a major oeuvre intersecting geography, time, and humanity.
