Direct drive scheme has a potential advantage of less energy requirement for demorstrating fuel ignition in ICF, because the coupling efficiency from a driver to DT fuel can be 10% or more. The key issue for this scheme is uniformity and/or stability of spherically symmetric implosion dynamics. I briefly review this scheme from its principle, recent experimental results to future prospects, especially focusing on the stability of its dynamics.
