Distribution of Locusta migatoria manilensis and soil in the locust plague are at Baiyangdian

2004
The texture, humidity, pH value and salinity of soil in the locust plague area baiyangdia, Hebei were analyzed and the differnces between different locust density regions comparaed to sampling points at this site. The results show that the soil is all of the sand soil type, pH was 7.26~8.12, and salinity was 0.067%~0.207%, in areas where locust density was <30 per square meter. The coarser texture and sparse food resources typical of the sandy soil are a suitable habitar for the Locusta migratoria manilensis (Meyen). Slightly higher humidity and more alkaline conditions increase the survival of the spcecies. Salinity had no obvious effects on density of L. migratoria manilensis in this study area.
