Graphene Ink-Coated Cotton Fabric-Based Flexible Electrode for Electrocardiography

In this paper, a cotton fabric-based electrode was developed for electrocardiography (ECG) monitoring. In the current healthcare system, silver/silver chloride (Ag/AgCl) electrode is commercially used for ECG monitoring purposes. However, study found that the use of Ag/AgCl electrode has several disadvantages due to the presence of hydrogel. Hence, development of flexible dry electrodes has gained much interest among researchers. This paper reports the fabrication of a flexible cotton fabric-based electrode using graphene ink as the conductive material. Advantages of cotton fabric include great flexibility, easily available and lightweight. The electrode was fabricated using simple dipping and drying method and preliminary result from the experiments conducted shows that the fabricated electrode is sufficiently conductive enough to detect the ECG signal.
