A Survey of English Writing and Meta-cognitive Skills of Different Levels of Learners

Based on the meta-cognitive theory,the present study attempts to clarify the general situation of English writing and meta-cognitive skills of learners at different levels.The data show that English writing and meta-cognitive skills of the non-English major students are generally poor and their meta-cognitive skills are related to their overall English level.Students show lower proficiency of strategic knowledge,planning and evaluation,and most students in non-English majors are not interested in English writing.The study results can provide some valuable information and implications for writing and meta-cognitive training of college English teaching.
