What separates us from turning EIC and EIT into successful clinical bed-side instruments?

Regarding the long history of research on impedance techniques, it is amazing and unsatisfactory to see so little clinical applications. In fact two separate worlds seem to exist: technicians, physicists and developers of EIC and EIT on one hand, doctors, clinicians and patients on the other. What separates those worlds from each other and how can we combine them for the benefit of patients?
