Advanced light sources: The GE light engine

1996
The GE Light Engine{trademark} is an integrated system using a high brightness discharge light source with high efficiency collection optics. The light from the source is distributed through total internal reflection via low loss large core plastic optical fibers. Light is delivered at the ends of the fibers through a simple and efficient lens, reflectors, and refractors. The Light Engine{trademark} offers excellent light controls, and can be used for fibers, beams, and emerging applications. Some performance measures include port brightness, spread angle, life, and color. An example of an application would be in an automobile, where all lights for visibility and signalling would be supplied from the same source, providing twice the light for half the power, lasting for the life of the car.
