The wind calculation in Tokyo urban area with a mesoscale model

2006
ABSTRACT: The wind velocity in an urban area calculated with a mesoscale model without an urban canopy model was often overestimated, even if a large value of aero dynamical roughness was specified on the surface. The results of the mesoscale model combined with a multi-layer urban canopy model are shown. The mesoscale model is the AIST-MM. The model is twice nested, the outer domain of the model covers 600km by 600km area, and the model is driven by JMA-GPV data. Inner domain is 180km by 180km with 2km grid. A multi-layer canopy model is combined into 120-145 grids of the 23-ward area of Tokyo in the inner model. The wind velocity calculated with urban canopy model is much improved when the results are compared with the observation on the top of a building and the AMeDAS (Automated Meteorological Data Aquisition System) points.
