Practicalities and basic principles of music therapy

Chapter 1 charted the recent evolution of music therapy to its current sta­ tus as a respected profession in its own right. In this chapter some of the practicalities, principles and thinking that underpin music therapy practice are discussed. We begin with a graphic representation of some of the main themes and ‘players’ present in any music therapy space (see Figure 2.1).
