The invention relates to an on-line monitoring terminal and a detection method for fault detection of a power distribution transformer. Compared with the prior art, the on-line monitoring terminal and the detection method overcome the defect that on-line monitoring equipment cannot determine the fault type. The on-line monitoring terminal comprises a vibration acceleration sensor (9) and a main control chip (1), wherein the vibration acceleration sensor (9) is arranged on the power distribution transformer, a serial port of the main control chip (1) is connected with a local communication unit (6), an alternating current sampling circuit (2) is connected with an SPI (serial peripheral interface) interface of the main control chip (1), an antenna (4) is connected with the signal end of the main control chip (1) through a wireless communication unit (3), and the alternating current sampling circuit (2) is connected with the vibration acceleration sensor (9). The on-line monitoring terminal and the detection method have the advantages that the work condition worsening process of the power distribution transformer can be monitored in real time, and the fault processing suggestions of the power distribution transformer can be given in time.
