Computer analyses of the excitable membrane
1980
Abstract Physiological analyses of the excitable membrane were performed using the Hodgkin-Huxley nerve model. All computations were for the space-clamped condition in which all variables are assumed to be spatially uniform over the membrane surface, varying only with time. The Newmark β-method was used in the calculation. The form of the rate constant in the model was generalized in terms of the membrane potential and a stimulating process was incorporated into the calculation. Anode break excitation, strength-duration curve, and subthreshold responses were the simulated physiological phenomena. The effects of changes in rate constants, membrane potential, membrane conductance, membrane capacity, and temperature were also illustrated.
