신생기업 입지결정과 집적의 경제

2014
This study empirically analyzes the existence of agglomeration economies as one of the factors affecting new firm"s location focusing on Chungnam province and its neighboring areas. Most previous studies on agglomerative effects using Korean data regard cities, counties or wards as the geographic level of observation, even though it is not in line with recent results suggesting that agglomeration economies mainly appear among workers within a short distance through their informal face-to-face contact. In addition, previous studies on new firms" arrival point out various variables as the determinants of location. However, due to the limit on data, it is restricted to control for all of them. To overcome such drawbacks, this study focuses on the border areas, i.e., areas within 2㎞ from the border line of Chungnam province using GIS. According to empirical results, the rise in the number of pre-existing establishments by its standard deviation(131.88) is expected to increase the number of newly arrived establishments by 22.03(= 131.88*0.1671). In addition, the results restricting samples to the border areas between Chungnam and Gyunggi indicate that recent deregulation of location in the capital region seems to weaken relative competitiveness of Chungnam as a location of new firms.
