Introducao: Identificar e encaminhar precocemente ao nefrologista os pacientes com nefropatia nas suas fases mais iniciais e a base da prevencao da progressao dessas doencas e da perda definitiva da funcao renal. Creatinina plasmatica e o teste mais usado para avaliar a funcao renal, mas alguns pacientes podem ter diminuicao importante da taxa de filtracao glomerular com creatinina plasmatica ainda normal. Nosso objetivo foi avaliar a prevalencia e as caracteristicas de pacientes que apresentam creatinina plasmatica normal, mas reducao significativa da taxa de filtracao glomerular. Metodos: Em um estudo observacional transversal contemporâneo, 1.495 pacientes consecutivos com creatinina plasmatica dosada pelo mesmo laboratorio tiveram a taxa de filtracao glomerular estimada pela formula de Cockcroft-Gault (DCE-CG), considerando-se =60 mL/min, apresentavam idade mais elevada (74,0±12,2 vs. 51,0±15,5 anos; p Background: Early identification of renal disease and referral to nephrologists isbasic in preventing progression to end-stage renal failure. Serum creatinine is frequently used as the screening test for this, but some patients may present significantly decreased glomerular filtration rates with normal range serum creatinine. This study intended to estimate the prevalence and the attributes of patients with normal range serum creatinine and concurrent significantly decreased glomerular filtration rate. Methods: In a crosssectional study, 1495 consecutive patients who had serum creatinine measured in the same laboratory were included. They had their glomerular filtration rate estimated using the Cockcroft-Gault equation, and results under 60 mL/min were considered as renal function impairment.
