Future research needs and action plan to combat water problem of India

2003
International Water management Institute through its PODIUM model has predicted worldwide acute water shortage by the year 2025. According to this model, about 33% world population comprising of 45 nations will be most severely hit by this problem. India is one of those nations. Model further predicts that most of these countries will have to import a substantial portion of their cereal consumption if they do not develop at least 25% more new primary water resources. It is the high time for the nation, therefore, to take immediate appropriate actions in this matter. This paper presents action plans for future research needs and actions to be taken by the various interest (beneficiary) groups of the country.
