Preliminary Tectonostratigraphic Terrane Map of the Southern Part of the New England Orogen, Eastern Australia

Eleven tectonostratigraphic terranes are recognized in the southern portion of the New England Orogen in eastern Australia. Nomenclature of some existing terranes is revised and new terrane names arc proposed in order to conform with stratigraphic convention as well as avoiding the genetic connotations implicit in some previous names. Aboriginal tribal names; Gamilaroi, Wemerai, Djungati, Anaiwan, Keinjan, Gidabal, Yugambal, Bundjalung, Ngaku, Birpai, and Ngamba are used for these terranes.
