10.09 – Restoration Strategies for Intertidal Salt Marshes

2011
Climate change and sea-level rise have combined with other factors resulting in major losses of intertidal salt marshes. Although salt marshes can develop naturally on suitable areas, their (re-)creation is not a simple process. There are a number of problems that are still not yet fully understood and careful consideration has to be given to each of these, if even moderately satisfactory results are to be achieved. There are many factors that can affect the success of the process. The detailed requirements for all aspects of salt marsh creation are set out and illustrated by some practical examples.
