Evaluation of the effect of cryogenic treatment of HSS drills in drilling SS310

Abstract SS310 is extensively used nowadays especially in the industries due to its desirable properties of high strength, weight and high resistance to corrosion. The Cryogenic treatment has been agreed as an efficient process to increase the tool life of materials, thus increasing the productivity drastically. This study was done on an SS310 with HSS and the CRYO drill tool with a diameter of 10 mm was used as (Milling) cutting tool. The investigation was carried to analyze the surface roughness, average diameter error and machining time on the ordinary and cryogenic drill bit. The spindle speed, feed rate and depth of cut were to be the factors while machining and geometrical were recorded. The CRYO drill bit performs very efficiently compared to ordinary HSS drill bit. The output response value of Roughness, average diameter error and machining time is very minimum while using a cryo drill bit.
