Espacio por excelencia para explorar el vínculo entre género y pobreza

The aim of this article is to estimulate the reflection on the convenience of bestow- ing centrality to the topic of women’s economic activity as an excellence means to advance in the understanding of the link between poverty and gender inequality. In a first part some paths are presented that, starting from statistical information and poverty measurements, have been trodden in order to explore the said link, putting forward the need to value its utility for the purpose. In a second part the pertinence is underlined to strengthen and increase the studies that from the examination of women’s economic activity, lay out a bridge between gender and poverty. For such a purpose, a synthetic panorama is presented of the cummulative knowledge on factors that condition the actions displayed by women to generate an income, as well as about the effects that the feminine economic activity has on their life conditions. The article ends with a reflection about the convenience that in terms of discussion over the design of a social policy with a focus on gender, has to incorporate mainly the question of women’s economic activity in the fight against poverty.
