For more than 150 years the Wurttembergian manhole system is used in Baden-Wurttemberg. It is characterized by the fact that all armatures of the distribution system are placed inside of the manholes; all services pipes start there. Special fittings have been developed for the "WN-System". The "manhole hydrant" is showing deficiencies of construction which may lead to microbial contamination of the drinking water. A new construction of the "manhole hydrant" is presented that excludes any risks of microbial contamination of the distribution system.
