Apparatus for balancing vehicle wheels, comprising a machine frame (10), a main shaft (12) which is rotatably mounted in the machine frame (10) and on which may be secured a wheel vehicle to be balanced, and a protective cover (20) at least partially engages over the vehicle wheel to be balanced and having an element stationary guard hood (22) and a cover movable guard (24) which is movable reversibly between an operative position and an inoperative position, characterized in that an operating and display unit (40) is fixed to the end (22a) of the cover stationary guard (22) which faces the operating position of the movable guard hood (24).
