Some relations between specific basketball motorics and cognitive capabilities and their effect on the efficiency in basketball

1995
The author has applied a battery of 15 tests for specific basketball motorics (ball-control, dribbling, passing, shooting, action and moving without the ball and tests of cognitive capabilities (Domino-test for intelligence factor and four tests for perceptive factor to the sample of 87 juniors (aged between 18 and 19: competed in Serbian And Yugoslavian cadet and junior championship during the season of 1993/94). The basketball efficiency of each player was evaluated by ten qualified judges. After the factor analyses of the applied batteries of tests had been done (and their homogeneity proven), the reliability of the judges established (by three methods: alpha, parallel and split) and the connection between the specific basketball motorics and the measured cognitive capabilities analyzed, the regression analysis of the predictor with the criterion was done (Enter-classical and Stepwise). Variables of the attacking basketball technique (dribbling, shooting, and passing the ball - level of significance 0.01) have the largest effect on the efficiency in basketball. Prediction of the quality of players is possible according to the results of the cognitive capability test. 'Perceptive analysis and logical concluding', 'perceptive differentiation and logical concluding' and Domino- test. According to the determination coefficient, the author has established that specific basketball motorics has greater effect on the efficiency in basketball than cognitive capabilities.
