Electric multipole resonances in /sup 208/Pb
1982
The radiative strength functions for the multipolarities L = 2, 3, and 4 in /sup 208/Pb have been calculated and their isotopic structure investigated, using a simple self-consistent model with accurate allowance for the continuous spectrum. It is shown that not only the E2 resonance, but also resonances of other multipolarities (up to L = 10), which contribute considerably to the sum rule, tend to be localized in the 10--13-MeV excitation-energy region. The charge transition densities and escape widths of the resonances are calculated. An isoscalar E3 resonance is found at about 17 MeV and its characteristics are investigated. A tendency is noted for the length of the energy interval in which the sum rule is exhausted to increase with increasing multipolarity of the transitions.
