Low-complexity occlusion handling for motion-compensated frame rate up-conversion

2009
This paper presents a novel low-complexity pixel-based occlusion handling algorithm. A smooth dense motion field associated with the interpolated frame is derived from the result of block-based motion estimation. The occlusion type of each pixel is determined by the corresponding divergence value of the motion field. Experimental results show that the proposed method reliably yields high quality interpolated frames, especially at occlusion regions, with an extremely low computational complexity.
