Current social and environmental damage resulting from conventional agriculture implies aneed for the development of a more just and viable agriculture, in order to enable farmer tocarry out a sustainable management of agricultural systems. In this regard, this study aims tocomprehend the perception of family farmers concerning sustainable agriculture transition inChapeco, SC. Therefore, interviews were conducted with six farmers who conducted and areconducting agroecological transition. As a result, respondents emphasized not using chemicalinputs led to a wide range of benefits. Another important aspect highlighted by the intervieweesrefers to the need for subsidies to enable effective conversion the production system. Therefore,social and environmental benefits related to the adoption of sustainable agricultural practicesmustbe accentuated, as well as the need to implement subsidies that enable the farmer tocarry out agro-ecological transition.
