Experiencia en biopsia intracraneana

2003
SUMMARY Introduction. The constant evolu- tion of the technological applications allows offering patients procedures that are less severe, safer and better cost ef- fective. Such is the case with the guided surgery with CAT images; MR; an- giography, etc., also called neurona- vigation. Objective. To present the experience of the neurological surgery service pro- vided by the police's Central Hospital in Bogota with the obtainment of brain biopsies by neuronavigation . Materials and methods. The Vectorvision system was used. The patient's previous studies (CAT, MR, angiography) are loaded into the sys- tem to obtain through neuronavigation brain biopsies that allow determining the diagnostic of different injuries to the central nervous system. The perfor- mance of the neuronavigation system through Vectorvision was compared to the stereotactic biopsy system (guided by CAT) maded in the same service. Results. Of 125 procedures guided by images, 64 were biopsies, 15 of which were done by Vectorvision. The average length for this procedure was 100 min- utes (DS27, 22) less than the one re- quired for a stereotactic biopsy. A histo- pathological diagnosis was done in all the cases, with a low rate of complica- tions (4,7%). (Acta Neurol Colomb 2003; 19:46-53)
