Dielectric losses in the mesomorphic phase of an n-alkyloxybenzylidene-p -n -butylaniline solution in a rotating magnetic field

2005
The conductivity of nematic liquid crystals in a rotating magnetic field was studied experimentally. Three modes of the director's orientation were identified. The characteristic frequencies of the relaxation of the oriented structure were evaluated. From the temperature dependence of the relaxation time, the activation energies were calculated. The characteristic parameters of the decay of the low-frequency component of the dielectric loss periodic change were measured. The analysis of the results obtained was based on the assumption that there is a relationship between the dielectric relaxation time and the time of relaxation of the director in a high-frequency magnetic field.
