Experimental study on the pyrolysis of tobacco stem

A series of tar were produced from tobacco stems by pyrolysis.The effects of processing parameters such as feedstock size,pyrolysis temperature and additives dosage on the pyrolysis products were studied.When the pyrolysis conditions were as follows:temperature at about 550 ℃,feedstock size between 0.425~1.000 mm,and the dosage of additives is 100% of the stuff,the yield of bio-oil was the maximum(47.9% of the tobacco stem),and the yield of tobacco-charcoal and gaseous was 17.6 wt% and 34.5% respectively.The pyrolysis bio-oil has complex components.The larger fraction of biomass tar(nicotine) which could be disgregated and purified is applied to medicine,food and feed,daily chemicals,dyes and electroplating industries.It might have wide applications.The results showed us the great potential of pyrolysis for bio-oil from tobacco stems.
