Comparison of fiber optic spectroscopy methods

2017
In this paper, a presentation of the advantages and drawbacks of medical diagnostics based on the fiber optic spectroscopy methods is presented. Starting from the wide-field imaging, we were able to mark the cancer-endangered regions, initially non-alarming, with the use of basic colours (RGB) intensity ratios. To increase the methods specificity, along with the resolution, we have moved to the fiber optic imaging probes, allowing to obtain both the fluorescence intensities and spectra, as well as the fluorescence dynamics in the form of its lifetime. Finally, we present the spectral results obtained with the combination of non-linear optical methods - the multiphoton fluorescence (MPF) and second harmonic generation (SHG) with the fiber optics, which will, hopefully, allow to prepare an efficient and robust, optical fiber non-linear microendoscope.
