“A STUDY ON EVALUATION OF MARKET PRICE REALISATION BY ONION CULTIVATORS THROUGH ORGANISED RETAIL CHAINS VIS-A-VIS CONVENTIONAL CHANNELS” ABSTRACT: Onion is one of the most important horticultural commodity and India ranks second in the world in terms of productivity. Producers should get a fair share in the price spread which otherwise would lead to switching in cropping pattern and reduce the supply during the subsequent seasons, which will lead to price escalation for the consumers. In India, after Globalisation and recent policy amendments have encouraged organized Global retail chains for direct investments. This study has been undertaken by survey method in Tamilnadu state of India, to understand the farmers’ share in the price spread in various marketing channels including organized retailers. The outcome of the study reveals the better share for the farmers in the case of choosing organized retailer besides operational convenience.
