Design of the CUK Converter with PI Controller for Battery Charging

2020
Nowdays, energy has a very important role in human life. The renewable energy is required for instance solar energy that is convenient, processed easily, and can be utilized by converting solar energy into electrical energy and stored in batteries. The electrical energy produced by solar panels depends on solar radiation and the surface temperature of the solar panel. Alteration in these two factors can cause voltage and power input to unstable loads and can cause damage to the battery. Therefore we need a converter that can be used to enhance or lower the output voltage and will be stabilized by using a PI control. In this paper, the converter used is a CUK converter. The battery used is a 12 Volt 40AH lithium polymer battery. This system can charge batteries with a constant voltage of 16.8 Volts. And when using control in the simulation, the calculation of the average error is 0.173%. This error is insignificant, so in this system the PI controller approved function properly.
