Efficacy and changes in clinical indicators in patients undergoing laparoscopic appendicitis or open appendectomy

Objective: To compare the outcomes of laparoscopic appendectomy versus open appendectomy.Methods:Data of 350 consecutive patients with acute appendicitis were retrospectively anzlyzed,of which 163 underwent conventional appendectomy and 187 patients had laparoscopic appendectomy.Length of time for leukocyte,and C-reactive protein combing back to normal level,status of passage of gas by anus as well as postoperative complications were observed and compared.Results:All of the operations were successfully performed.Patients underwent laparoscopic appendectomy showed better outcomes regarding to the aspect of length of time for leukocyte,and C-reactive protein combing back to normal level and incision infection(P0.05).Conclusions:Laparoscopic appendectomy is superior to open appendectomy with advantages of small incision,quick recovery,and quick clearance of infection.
