Parents satisfaction with nursing care in children with supracondylar fracture of the humerus

INTRODUCTION. Supracondylar fractures of the humerus occupy a significant place in the morbidity of children with an incidence of 70%. One of the most important roles of the nurse in the process of treating supracondylar fractures of the humerus is cooperation with parents, intimacy, their knowledge of the course and method of treatment. AIM. To determine the satisfaction of parents with nursing care of children with supracondylary fracture of the humerus compared to the applied treatment method. MATERIAL AND METHODS. The research was conducted at the Institute for Health Care of Children and Youth of Vojvodina in Novi Sad using custom questionnaires and disease history to obtain relevant data that was statistically processed. RESULTS. Supracondilar fractures of the elbow occupy the first place by frequency in relation to other elbow fractures. 80% of respondents expressed satisfaction with nursing care and emotional support from nurses whenever needed, 86.7% fully agree that their concern has been reduced due to care and information provided by nurses. CONCLUSION. In the case of supracondylary fractures of the humerus in children, the work of a nurse requires not only classical nursing, but also knowledge and recognition of injuries, conditions, diagnostic procedures, complications and psychology of the child, as well as educating parents about the upcoming period of treatment and care of the child at home.
