The method specifically includes the steps: drying bentonite raw ores and crushing the same into granules in small grain size, then adding the granules into self-made mechanical activation equipment prior to adding a certain amount of modifiers, starting mechanical stirring by setting a certain stirring speed to enable raw materials to react under grinding of ball-milling media, and finally, sieving the generated modified bentonite. By means of control of modifier consumption, reaction time, stirring speed and the like, the multipurpose bentonite applicable to metallurgical pelletizing, casting, well drilling and the like can be prepared.
