CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL STUDY OF OVARIAN TUMOURS

2019
The ovaries are unique in the variety of lesions that can arise from them. No other organ in the human body is the site of so many different tumours, both primary and secondary, as the ovary. Benign ovarian tumours were more common than malignant tumours in all age groups. A majority of patients presenting with acute abdominal pain had benign (87.50%) ovarian neoplasms that had undergone torsion. Most tumours (56.92%) diagnosed in post-menopausal women were of borderline or frankly malignant type. Detailed histopathological study for typing of ovarian tumours, as per the WHO Classification, has a significant impact on patient management and predicting prognosis. A majority of the ovarian malignancies in this study were diagnosed in post-menopausal women. Most patients presented with non-specific and vague symptoms over a period of time.
