Zur Eignung des "Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance" (HELP) Modells der U.S.-UmweltbehOrde zur Simulation des Wasserhaushalts von Deponieabdecksystemen On the Suitability of the "Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance" (HELP) Model of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the Simulation of the Water Balance of Landfill Covers
2000
The physical isolation of the disposed waste material by encapsulation is a major strategy to safeguard landfills. To design a landfill cover properly, its water balance must be evaluated. For this purpose a model called "Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance" (HELP) has been developed in the USA in order of the Environmental Protection Agency. The paper discusses some difficulties in the handling, and some essential limitations and restrictions in the application of the model. Furthermore simulation results are compared with field data, measured on technical-scale test fields on the hazardous waste site Georgswerder in Hamburg (FRG).
