Dynamic Modeling of the Aircraft Landing Gear Based on ISD Mechanism

2018
This paper investigates the dynamic modeling for an aircraft landing gear based on the Inerter-Spring-Damper (ISD) mechanism (including inerter, spring and damper). The inerter is a mechanical element proposed recently, which has two terminals movable freely and independently. The force across these two terminals is proportional to the relative acceleration. Performance could be improved by introducing ISD mechanism into various suspension systems, which has been observed. In theory, introducing the inerter into the aircraft landing gear can improve the performance of touchdown and taxiing effectively, and reduce the failure probability. This paper discusses the fundamental principles of the inerter, and the ISD structures in details. The study makes use of computer simulations and establishes the dynamic model of the landing gear based on ISD mechanism, and the dynamic characteristics during taxiing is analyzed.
