A Macro-Organizational Approach to Leadership.

A macro-oriented leadership model is presented. The model is concerned with: why leaders behave in particular ways and what leadership actions influence unit success under different macro conditions. A new concept called "discretionary leadership" is introduced as part of the model. Empirical results from Army telecommunication units are reported for three propositions.
