Percutaneous Ethanol Sclerotherapy Is a Promising Treatment modality for Recalcitrant Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia with Eosinophilia.

2021
Angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia (ALHE) is a rare benign vascular proliferation manifesting as characteristic red nodules and papules, mostly located in the scalp and peri-auricular regions. Treatment is sought for both aesthetic and functional reasons, as lesions may ulcerate, bleed and itch. Many therapeutic approaches have been reported, with variable success. Yet, relapse remains a troublesome issue. The purpose of this study was to report our experience treating ALHE using percutaneous ethanol sclerotherapy. We present a retrospective case series of 3 patients treated with ethanol sclerotherapy (1-2 treatment sessions). All patients have tried and failed other modalities prior to this intervention. Following treatment, all patients demonstrated significant improvement, which was sustained at follow-up (range 8-17 months after first treatment). Side effects were tolerable and short lasting. This case series demonstrates ethanol sclerotherapy is a promising modality for the treatment of recalcitrant ALHE.
