Coke precursors are clearly concentrated in the acid and base fractions of each resid. Their tendency toward coke formation can simply be attributed to their relatively low H/C ratio, rather than to any specialized functional group effects. The partitioning of nitrogen and nickel between MCR volatiles and solids show a dependance on composition of the resids
