We have conducted an exploratory study aiming at analyzing the soap opera Gabriela as an element of widespread learning of History in regard to the issues of colonelism and clientelism. We have used multiple case-studies as a method, which has been based on interview techniques and content analysis. We have identified the following construction of knowledge: 1) Power, command, and submission; 2) The Colonel and his men; 3) System fragmentation; 4) Violence; and 5) Politics: clientelism and alliances. We have concluded that such constructed knowledge is interconnected in the participants’ speeches, with special emphasis on command and the electoral issue. In addition, the participants have viewed the soap opera as a representation of the past. Thus, they have understood the temporal differences between the present and the scenes showed in Gabriela and processed mental operations of experience, interpretation, and orientation.
