High spin states in the doubly odd /sup 72/Br nucleus
1982
States of $^{72}\mathrm{Br}$ were studied through the $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$($^{16}\mathrm{O}$,$\mathrm{np}$) reaction at $E=40 \mathrm{to} 55$ MeV. From the excitation function, $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray angular distribution, $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{-}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ coincidence and decay measurements, $\ensuremath{\gamma}$ rays depopulating states with probable spin values ranging up to $I=(9)$ were found. An isomeric state of ${T}_{\frac{1}{2}}=10.3\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.6$ sec, and ${I}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}=({1}^{\ensuremath{-}})$ at 101.0 keV excitation energy was found. The observation of certain similarities with a recently reported band in $^{74}\mathrm{Br}$ suggests that the collective features seen in heavier Br isotopes may persist in $^{72}\mathrm{Br}$.
