Inordertoachieve bothhighspeedandhigh precision formotion control, acontroller withflexible algorithm andprogrammable logic willbeexpected. Basedon Field Programmable GateArray(FPGA),thispaperproposes an approach tosubdivide thesteptomicrosteps withrequired resolution forstepper motortoimprove positioning accuracy, thepaperalsodescribes thedesign andimplementation ofthe microstepper motordriver withFPGA residing attheheart. Inthispaper, sine/cosine microstepper methodisadopted to adjust current ineachwinding ofthestepper motorwith built-in sine/cosine look-up table inFPGA,henceprecise and homogeneous microsteps canbeobtained. Inaddition, the designs ofthehardwareandsoftware arealsoproposed in detail tocontrol thecurrents ofthemotorprecisely, a simulation ofFPGAlogic torealize microstepper functions has beencompleted toverify theeffectiveness ofproposed approach.
