The Comprehensive Evaluation of Basement Reservoir, Cap Rock and Favorable Area in Block 6, Sudan

The basement hydrocarbon reservoir will be the important exploration targets in Block 6, Sudan. There was a great challenge that the basement exploration in this area because there were few wells drilled into the basement and the quality of seismic data was poor. This paper predicts the favorable areas for basement exploration through the systematic analysis of source rocks, reservoirs and cap rocks. The study shows that the source rocks are well developed, the lithology types of basement are various and the fracture and the porosity are mainly types of reservoir space. The evaluation of cap rock is the key factor for basement exploration because the cap rock is generally sandy in most area. Combined the drilled wells and the seismic attributes, this paper shows a comprehensive evaluation of basement reservoir and cap rock and gets 6 favorable area of basement exploration in the study area. This study fills the gaps of evaluation of basement reservoir, cap rock and favorable area in Block 6, Sudan. And it provides very useful and important information for next exploration of basement.
