Improved injection-molded article of polyolefin and product obtained therefrom

1989
PURPOSE: To obtain with good workability an injection-molded article with excellent flexural modulus, impact resistance, etc., by compounding a specified amt. of a specified graft copolymer to a polyolefin matrix, melting it by heating and injection-molding it. CONSTITUTION: A graft copolymer which is a graft copolymer with a polyolefin backbone (e.g. polypropylene) and a methacrylate chain polymer being covalently bonded with this backbone and wherein the methacrylate chain polymer is polymer derived from at least approximately 80 wt.% methacrylate monomer of the formula (wherein R is an alkyl, an alkanol, etc.), and less than approximately 20 wt.% copolymerizable acrylic or styrnic monomer and with a wt. average mol.wt. of at least approximately 20,000 and exists by a wt. ratio of approximately 1:9-4:1 to the backbone, is prepd. Then, a resin compsn. contg. approximately 0.2-5 wt.% of this graft copolymer and approximately 60 wt.% polyolefin matrix is prepd. and it is melted by heating and is injection-molded to obtain an injection-molded article.
