[66-OR]: The uteroplacental arterio-venous differences of Placental Growth Factor (PlGF) and soluble Fms-like tyrosine kinase1 (sFlt-1) in normal and preeclamtic pregnancies
2015
Objectives PlGF and sFlt-1 are expressed in the trophoblast. Current data suggest increased placental production of sFlt-1 in preeclampsia. Reports diverge regarding whether the placenta is the main source of PlGF. The PlGF concentrations are lower in preeclamptic women, but it is not clear if this is a result of decreased production or increased removal from the circulation. We aimed to 1: determine if there are uteroplacental arterio-venous (av) differences of PlGF and sFlt-1 in normal pregnancies; 2: investigate if these differences are altered in preeclampsia. Methods Case-control study including 23 women with early onset (diagnosis t -tests. Results As shown in the figure preeclamptic women had lower levels of PlGF and higher levels of sFlt-1 ( p p = 0.41) and so was the av-difference/gram placenta ( p = 0.72).We found no PlGF or sFlt-1 concentration differences between the radial artery and the antecubital vein. Conclusions The placenta seems to contribute to the higher levels of sFlt-1 found in preeclampsia. Our results suggest that the placenta delivers PlGF to the uterine circulation, but do not confirm that a placental failure of PlGF production is a key feature of preeclampsia. Disclosures A.M.
