Supporting theory for a block approximate inverse preconditioner

Abstract We develop some supporting theory for a block approximate inverse (BAINV) preconditioner proposed by Benzi, Kouhia and Tůma, in 2001, proving that, for a class of M- and H-matrices, the algorithm does not break, regardless of the dropping strategy adopted.
