Running threads through the discussion are the relation between globalism and urban identity, and Flanders’ problematic relation to urbanity – its lack of ‘urban’ or ‘metropolitan’ qualities, and the problems these deficits cause when it comes to dealing with otherness and difference in a globalizing world.
